The views of Bubba are not necessarily the opinions/policies of the ownership of CDLFreedom"
"After all he is kinda out there sometimes"

Larry Caruso - Edgewater, FL

Damn that just sounds wrong. With things the way they are some companies have taken to treaten their drivers like c&%p. I gota tell you, this sounds horrible on the surface. BUT like my antie Sarabeth there must be more we don't see. In her case it's the 9 toes on 1 foot and and back hair like a black bear. I gota believe you aint telling me every thin, if you are I'm really sorry, and you better get a copy of your DAC report and see what they put on it. Your only option to get the $500 back would be lawyer and to tellya the truth, it will most likely cost you more than $500 to get $500. Even I know that's a sucker bet. Your kind of screweded bud. If you are holden back on Bubbay Shame on You.
Good luck Bubba

Been out 2years,what do ineed to get back to it?

Grass Hopper - Buffalo, NY

Grass hopper: Are you like that David Carradine? "When you take the stone from my hand you are done" My buddies wife says that all the time. It is a hard thing to say. How long did you drive before? If your license was perfectly spotless and clean you might find a company to take you on as a New Driver. With a ride along you should be able to prove yourself and get going on your own in a short time. Or a small 1-2-3 Mom and Pop fleet. They are more apt to look at your previous experience and work with you. Go in and fill out a drivers reseme under Job Search and 1 of our peoples will look at you and see if they can help. We do have some companies out that buffalo ways.
Sorry for the delay Bubba has been a little under the weather.
Good luck Bubba

crim background is under review.Wll this hurt me obtaining employment?

Jimmie - Lott, TX

Weeeeeeeeeeellllllllll Jimmie what in the heck do you mean your criminal background is under review??? IS THERE SOMTHIN IN YOUR CRIMINAL RECORD "LIKE A CRIME" Who is reviewing it, some movie company wanten to do a remake of Bonnie & Clide. You really got to give the Bubba more info when asken me a question. I aint no mind reader, even though a lota people think I'm pretty smart.
Bottom line!! Got a felony not good, gota bad felony, you need find a new way to make a livin.
Let me know you sound like an interesting feller.
Bubba

Hi bubba I was referred to this by dacfix.com, I have 3 preventable accidents on my dac report. Are there any companies that might hire me? I have 1yr and 8 months driving over the road.

Socomcaster - Philidelphia, PA

Socomcaster
Are you really serious, at this rate if you have a 20yr career you'll rack up 36 accidents over that time. GEEEEEEEEEEEEEzzzzzzz Jumpen rug rat. My cousin Mary Lou can do better than that and she is legally blind, only has 1 arm and has 1 leg longer than the other. I'm sorry but NO with that record you need to rethink careers.
Now that being said if these here proventable accidents were of the Bull S&*t kind. (Backing into dock, breaking a tail light etc) Then there may be help for you. If these are Bad ones or DOT reportable, you really are in a bad way. If they are just little ones have those nice people at DACFIX send us your DAC report. We'll look at it and be able to tell you better if you are now an EX-Driver.
Bubba

I havent been OTR since 2004 but driven locally. I seem to be having trouble getting work because of insurance regulations. What can I do besides going back to school ??

Dennis - Jacksonville, FL

I can't really begin to answer without a little more info. WHAT insurance regulations are you talking about? Are you willing to go OTR?? Have you been driving consistently as class A locally??? What do you want to secure?? See bonehead (Your handle I didn't make it up) Your asken me to make an omlet without all the eggs, make shine with no corn, just gots to have all the stuff before I start cooken. If you don't want everone to know, just put please keep private, and only you and I will know I won't posted it.

Looken forward to hearen from you

Bubba

Are there any books that can teach what you need to know about owning your own truck ??

Eugene - Pembine, WI

Eugene: To tell ya the truth I aint the one to ask about them books. My favorite is the Sears Catalog. I like them pictures and the Christmas one lasts almost a whole month in the outhouse. But if I were to go alooken I would look for "The successful Truck Owner Operator" By Jeff Lessing It isn't real new, but still a good first look at the Owner operator side. If you decide to go that way give old Bubba a yell we can help with Trucks/Financing/ insurance anything you need to get started and be glad to help.

Good readen
Bubba

Can you average your speed at 65 miles an hour in states that are 70 mls an hour???

John - Atlanta, GA

John:
YES If you get better millage at 65mph, by all means average 65.No smoky should ever bother you for doing 5 mph below the posted limit, if he does let me know cause I'm sure we can find an attorney that would be glad to do the work. The posted speed is a high limit, and the low is usually around 45. My daddy told me to always drive 5 below the limit and don't hit them holes. Guess he was afraid the smokys wouldn't like the idea of all them mason jars in the back full of shine. Didn't matter I couldn't get that damn horse to run even with my boot kicken him.

question: I failed a pre employment drug test because I did over the counter medications for my allergies, which showed up as illegal drugs,in my system, and was turned down for a job, will that show up on my dac report?
I'm trying to get it straightened out now, I was never asked whether I did any medications at the time of the test and never thought to tell them,I just want to know if I go for another job, will this hurt me? and if so what do I do to take care of this problem, I've been driving for 14 years and dont want this to end my career, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Willie - St. Augustine, Fl

Willie/Willie/Willie You just need to be beat wit a switch.

Very first thing ya always do is tell the drug testing people you took some meds. To cover your Butt.

Now lets look at this thing. As far as your DAC
#1 Some companies do and some don't report pre hire testing failures. They are required to by DOT, but some don't bother. They figures you already gots problems.
#2 Go to www.dacfix.com and pay to get your DAC and see if it's there.

NOW Willie: By law you should have been contacted by a MRO (Medical Review Officer) if you failed the test. It is their job to call and double check if you took anything other than what showed up. So if your bein honest with old Bubba, you might have all the ammo you need to have this test and its results throwed out.

Let me know what your DAC says and we'll go from there.
Bubba

I'm darryl fain and joined cdl freedom a little ways back in search of a job. was reading some of the drivers questions on bubba's page an seen one close to my problem.

Have about 2 an a half yrs experience but it's not consistent, i 've been out of a truck a year this month, and can't seem to get a job.i moved to Florida last November(pensacola) from Illinois an found out that was not a good move, now I'm back in Chicago an still cant get anything. I think it may be cause of my FL, license.I can't get it switch over cause Illinois d.m.v.says you have to bring your own truck for the road test.

Are there any company's (big or small )that will hire me with fl license in Chicago? I'm willing to go through a refresher or training to get back on the road ,any idea's or info would help. thankyou ,darryl
Darryl - Chicago, Il

Hey Darryl: Bob sent this to me and I'D BE GLAD TO TRY AND HELP. Florida to Chicago geeeeeeez you'll be sorry in Feb. LOL I moved to a Dry County once, amagin my face when it started to rain, I spent 3 days looken for a bar where I could drink away the blues. Who whata thunk a dry county was really dry.

Well lets start here. I'm gona assume you have a virgin driving record, no problems and squeaky clean. If not you can pretty much not bothering to read further. REALLY.
Your still reading SO you must have a clean MVR. The 1 company in that area that MIGHT be willing to take you on as a new CDL Licensee is USA Truck. We have had some success getting them to take drivers in your position and put them thru as New. If your experience is solid you will breeze thru the starting process and move up quickly. Other than that I'm afraid I havn't got a lot of leads.

Just hang in there and keep selling your self to the little companies. If you'd like to try USA, get back to me or Bob and we can try sending an app and working with them.

Good luck
Bubba

Hey Bubba- I have been driving for sixteen years, with no problems.

I had a "preventable accident" two and a half years ago. I layed a set over. I was working for a union co. at the time. I continued to work there until I, along with many others, was laid off in April.

My MVR has no points. Just a "failure to operate a motor vehicle at a speed less than proper", that I recieved for the accident. I can not get hired cuz my old co. is reporting it to my potential employers.

After three years when it drops off my MVR, do my chances of getting hired increese or is this thing gonna follow me forever? Any tips? Thanks?

Jammer - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Jammer: I asked my buddy what he was going to do with his new bride and he said Jammer. He aint married no more.

Let's see here: TO START I assume you are saying your previous co has placed this info on your DAC or is reporting it on any job history requests. Good news DAC may drop your accident in 7-10 yrs.

Bad news. Your previous Co can keep listing this on any history inquiries for ever. Your MVR may clean up after 3, but your DAC and driver history checks last up to 10 or longer.

You're a UNION Driver? What the hell do you pay dues for? Can't your rep go to bat for you, or at least find another Union job for you? If you can't make this DAC or History request clean up you are not likely to drive again in the near future.

CAN I BE BLUNT??? SH#% YES BUBBA!!
You're a UNION driver, kinda means you need to stay a UNION driver. Although they won't admit it, non union co's are not inclined to bring a UNION or EX-UNION Guy in. Kinda like that time I bought an old fox because he was cheaper than a dawg. Put that sucker in with the chickens and guess what happened.

Good Luck Bubba

Can u give me a list of companies that hire convicted felonies?

Rotarius Jess - Camilla, GA

NO I'm not being funny, but right now I can't think of any small to large fleet that will hire you. You may find a small Mom &Pop Co that might give you a shot. You got to remember it's not just the company that dictates these policies. The customers often have policies that would not allow convicted felons to drive their loads.(SORRY GUY) Felony convictions are for the most part a career enders. With Home Land Security getting more involved in the industry just makes your situation even more so. Like when the rattler bit me 12 times, I decided it was time to find a new career.

Good Luck Bubba

Is there any company that hire drivers with a misdemeanors on their record?

Rotarius Jess - Camilla, GA

Jess: It really depends on what it was for and when it happened. It's like them cops look at drinking shine and making shine as 2 different bads. Yes many companies will let you slide if the misdemeanors were of a non driving nature and reflect what some of us refer to as our younger Brain Farts when we were young and stupid. I'm just not young any more. Just be upfront about them as they will show on a criminal record check. Some smaller companies don't go that far, but honesty is the best policy. Damn I've become my 1st grade teacher.
Start with the little guys where you might get a chance to prove yourself, and see what shacks out.

Good Luck
Bubba

I am living in palm coast fl. and drove for werner for 8 months was realy screwed over by them.. I am realy having a bad one trying to find a job what can i do any suggestions??

Scott - Palm Coast, Fl

Mr Topnotch: Just what did them guys do to you? I ass ume you have only 8 Months experience. Not a real good start for the day. It's like the woman applying at Miss Daisy's house of them there pleasures. Just cause you know what to do , don't mean you know how to do it. Florida is just not a very great place to be a driver looking for work. BUT if you really want to know. J.R. English might be a shot, or them Heartland people. Both will hire with limited experience, but going to really depend on the who was the screwer and who was the screweee.

Bubba

bubba, i like to know have u herd any truck driving jobs that your home on weekends .close by me .i been unemployed for over a year now but i still have 6 years under my belt as over the road driver.thank you Ron

Ron - Houghton Lake, MI

Well my buddy stopped coming home weekends cause he couldn't never find a parken spot in his driveway. To be honest guy yes we might be able to help. Go to the cdlfreedom résumé page under Job Search and fill it out. There are some opportunities out there still. Is you interested in becoming an Owner Operator? If so they could help get you set up , and there are more of them type of jobs out there than Co. Drivers right now.
Make sure you put in the comment page Bubba sent you, just might scare them folks into looking at it a third or fourth time. JUST KIDDEN

Good Luck Bubba

Can you tell me the worst 10 trucking companys out there?

John - NV

Sure I can But I won't. Whats a bad company to me may not be too you. Some drivers are like them abused woman, They LIKE to be misused and taken for granted. Some drivers like a company that can't remember their name, or a co that hires Brain Dead Dispatchers. Or those that thinks 1400 miles a week makes your truck payment.I had a dog once that was blind and couldn't smell.
I loved that dog but he wasn't worth a s&8T. Top ten worst, LOL you looking to trip up old Bubba.I can not give ya the names of the 10 worst, but just ask around lots of guys out there willing to tell you their thoughts.

In Pa. can I still get a CDL after 2 Dui's?

Rob - Lansdale, PA

Yes you can get a CDL at any time. It's like having a 3 legged hunting dog.
Nice to have but can do much with it. Guy don't waste your time and money or time right now. A DUI or DWI follows you for at least 7yrs. Not much of any company out there that will hire you with that record, let alone with NO experience. I knows it sucks , but you would be lucky to get a driving job to pickup people going to AA meetings. Might want to consider other options or careers not requiring any type of driving license as 3rd strike might be a felony in your state. Maybe a bartender, I always enjoyed that job.

Bubba

I'm a retiree [61 yr old] needing to get a job in Richmond VA. Was self employed so have no 'job references'. If I get a CDL license is +/- $600/week realistic ???

Arlin L - Powhatan, VA

Hey Arlin: I gota be right up front for you. Having a CDL with NO experience is like having a new still and no corn. #1 I'm afraid it would be a waste of your valuable resources right now to spend any money on a CDL School. #2 There aint but a very /very few companies that will hire a driver with no experience. #3 61 years of self employment doesn't give anyone a place to check work history. I do understand your problem, but in todays economy and with the current number of experienced drivers looking for work, your chances of finding work after getting a CDL are to be honest, Not very good.
Also to be looking in a particular area like you are, makes it even harder as most experienced drivers your age are now looking for local work. I don't know what your past work history was, but if it involved driving and you had a super clean license, you Might/Just might find a local delivery co that might work with you. Go explain your situation first and see whats out there before spending any hard earned money. If you can get a CDL for free GO AHEAD, just be warned it may not carry any weight for you.

I wanted to know what over the road company would accept me with a felony that going to be two years old in sept. I'll give all the details in hope I can get some helpful info. I was charged with unlawful use of a weapon for discharging a firearm into the air in an alley way with a couple of friends. No jail time just fine and probation. I got my CDL A and it seems like no one will hire me. I tried Swift and Warner, which are two names I hear will hire. And some companies told me to try when I'm off probation in Sept. A lot of people say owner operators but I really don't know how to get connected with one. I'm just looking for a chance to make some ok money and support my family. Any advice will help. Thanks.

DJustin15

Need some more info djustin15:

Did you get your CDL after the felony?
How long have you had the CDL?
Is your driving record as pure as driven snow ?

Once you get back to me I'll give you my opinion and help if I can. If you have no objection I will post this and any responses on " ASK BUBBA" as well so other guys can learn from your problems.
Thanks Bubba

I got my cdl after my felony and had it since oct. 08. I do have a speeding ticket from may of 2006.

DJustin15

Well to cut thru all the crap, and get to the nitty/gritty:

I sure hope you did not pay good hard earned money to a Driving School to get that CDL. If you did, they kinda just *&%# You and didn't even give you a kiss. A truly honest and up front Driving School will pre-qualify you and look close at your history in order to let you know your chances of using that new CDL. Anyone in the industry knows that a Felony stays with you for at least 5 years and with some cases longer. The fact it was gun related, almost no company will even give you the benefit of hearing your explanation. Hell I caught that feller in my bed with my wife, got real upset but I at least didn't get my gun til he kicked my coon dog Rosco, that just lit me up, kinda did his butt as well. Remember! ( 2 parts rock salt/ 1 part black powder.)

I am truly sorry djustin: Unless you can find a small company to drive for, maybe a local carrier or delivery company, your kinda in a bad place. I do not know of a single company that will hire you with a Felony Gun Charge and I knows a lot of companies. You also do not have Any Experience to show, most companies require a 1 yr min. some a little less, but none will take no experience. That doesn't mean you can't get lucky keep your head up and your guns holstered and keep trying.

How do I get a copy of my own DAC report?

D Donaldson - Cedar Hill, MO

Mr. Donaldson:

Are you sure you wants to see it?
Just might be the length of a Novel, hopefully only a short story.

Just kidding! A place to start is DAC FIX www.dacfix.com them people are real nice and can not only get you a copy, but they can help if there is stuff on there that aint true.

Had a company put on mine that I was late, wasn't me it was my girl friend that was late, and now we calls him Billy Bob. Never drink shine in the hot sun!!

Good luck and keep them black tires down.

Bubba

i was driving for a company in dallas tx .i have had my cdl for about 5 yrs but got out of the truck for a while had to go back and get recertified got the that done finally got hooked up with the company drove as a team driver for 2 1/2 months through christmas through new years they called me back and discharged me for they said falsefying my application.because a couple of dates overlapped this was already discussed and corected and sign off on by all parties and it was a done deal can you help me so i can get back to work. thanks

Sleepy

Well Sleepy: I just might be able to help. First we needs to know some more info. How tall are you? What color are your eyes, do you like walks on the beach? Ouch sorry wrong e-mail
Noo really need to know some stuff: Is your MVR squeaky clean? Do you know if any of this crap is on your DAC?
Best start is to send CDLFreedom your driver résumé on the job search page. I’ll have them watch for you and we can take a look and see whats out there.

Bottom line is you been used and didn’t even get kissed. They needed help for the holiday surge and when it was over they used a bull-s**t technicality to get rid of you. You know I can’t remember my kids name, people want me to remember the exact dates of my 299 jobs?(Some only lasted hours) Geeeeeeeeeeez. Mistakes happen and should not be used to take advantage of people. Might want to warn your good buddies about this bottom feeding company.Give us a jingle and we’ll see what we can do.

Bubba

Bubba:

I finally got a job with ____, the only thing is that the truck they have assigned me to
is dirty inside and on the out side the grill is busted, the truck is tore up and i tried to talk to the lady that assigned the truck to me, i even showed her the truck, but she said take it anyway! even if it is in very bad shape, it's so nasty inside that she said they will give me $20, if i clean it myself, how in the hell do i get another truck in better shape HELP!!!!!!!

I DON'T WANT TO CATCH ANYTHING FROM THIS TRUCK OR NEITHER DO I WANT ANY PROBLEMS WITH DOT ABOUT THIS TRUCK, I AM 5 YEARS EXP DRIVER AND I'M BEING TREATED LIKE A NEWBIE!!!!

WHAT'S UP !?

Silverone

Well Silverone: It’s like going to the outhouse and finding someone took the sears catalog, we just gota make due sometimes. I field tons of e-mails everyday from guys and gals that would take a skate board with a 5th wheel if they could just find work. I’m sure your unhappy. Ever think they might be testing you to see if you were a complainer? OR it might just be the only unit ready at the time. If there are DOT issues just document them in your daily inspection report. Other than that Lysol is cheap, and Trust Bubba beeeeeeeeeeee soooooooooo glad you got a job and a truck under your butt there are Lots out there that will gladly change with ya ,AND THE COMPANY KNOWS IT. Remember, in today’s economy, the squeaky wheels gets replaced not greased.

What truck companies are hiring laid off teamster drivers? I have been turned down by over 20 truck companies. I have a perfect MVR a great record and a good attitude. Thanks Bubba!.

Overcaffeinated -Nashville, TN

Dear Toooooooo much Coffee: I would need a little info to be much help, but here goes. If that there Union gave you the names of the 20 companies, and they said NO. I'd rethink them Union dues I been payen. If they was companies you picked, I bet you mentioned you were a teamster. DON"T DON"T DO THAT. To even mention Teamsters to a non-union company is like tellen your girl you got a bad rash, she won't even talk dirty to you on the phone.(And them companies won't touch you either) Non-Union companies like seeing you like I like seeing my e-mother in laws.
Now that being said if you fill out a résumé on CDLFreedom Job search I'll tell them to watch for it and see what they can do. It may not have anything to do with you being a Teamster. We are just now seeing companies start to hire again, it might just be the area your looking in. As I tell everyone, right now you gota be flexible in what you want, at least til things get better.

Let me know if any of this helps.

Bubba

My dac is good, but i'm not
able to get hired, how do
I find out if i'm being
BLACKBALLED & WHY?

Spiderman -Lillington, NC

Spiderman: Welllll Ive been blackballed once before, they were swelled and sore, OOOPss that Blueballed. Most companies will lie to you when you ask why you weren’t hired, but a lot will be honest (SO ASK EM). Try doin a résumé on CDLFreedom job search and I'll have THEM LOOK OUT for your info and see what they can do they can find out if a previous employer is talken dirt about ya.vIf you’re an owner operator I'm sure there may be some help.
Things ain't good in our house right now, but getten better with more companies hiring or starting to.
You did take a shower? Wore your teeth instead of grandpa's? Didn't have an accident in the parking lot?
To be honest, most companies are up front about doing you bad by just adding anything they want to say in the DAC. Your MVR is what it is and they can't effect that, sooooo If you have a clean license and a clean DAC, you might have somebody talkin dirt on the employment verification reports they get.
It would be someone you worked for in the past 10 yrs possably. Is your application being excepted, and then they tell you later after checking NO??

Let me know Bubba

I recently had my cdl suspended for no show in court i was wondering do you know a trucking company that is willing to get them out of suspention and give me a chance with there company. p.s. i have five yrs otr ex.

Queen J-Sparta, GA

Queen j: I had a wife that made me call her Queen Betty Sue, was fun for awhile until she decided to call the garage the dungeon, and my tree stand the North Tower. She kinda got lost in it, but when she took my Barker Lounger for her throne, I kicked her royal @$$ out the royal entrance, over the creek (moat) and into the Royal sitting room with the 2 holes and nice view.
What happened? Did you think that ticket was just a request for you come on down for shine and a sandwich. I'll be very upfront with you, Watch My LIPS NO. Unless you have a friend in the industry, I know of no company that will spend money to get your suspension lifted. Honestly, they don't need to, there are lots of drivers out there that have their licenses that need work. What was the Ticket for? To tell you the truth, a suspension on your MVR and what ever the original ticket was, kinda makes you like a Beer salesman at a AA meeting, got something to sell but the no buyers. Sorry Queen, get your license back (on your own), hope the ticket wasn't a deal breaker , and then knock on doors.

Keep me up to date
Bubba

I have my cdl and no experience. I can't find a job - can you help me? tks.

Hector -Euless, TX

Hector: Your in kinda a no/man's land.

Got the license but can't get a job without experience and can't get experience without a job. Like haven a coon dog and no raccoons to teach him with.

Or haven a box full of them condominiums and no woman around to show you how to use em.

It's not easy Hector, you'll need to find a small truckin fleet or owner willing to give you a shot. Maybe as a co driver in a team , where you can get some time with a seasoned driver. You just gota keep looking and believe me, KEEP YOUR LICENSE CLEAN AND FREE OF MARKS

Good luck Bubba

Can I get back to driving with a speeding ticket (not in gib truck) 90/45 and susp. dl? ?

Robert - St. Aug., Fl

ROBERT/ROBBY/BOBBY: 90 IN A 45! Did you have to make a serious trip to the outhouse or were you just sleepen?
Suspended license? Before or after you had the brain fart?

Just kidden guy, we all like to go fast, my wife thinks I'm in PARK most of the time, but what the hell does she know she married me.

In all seriousness you should GO FISHIN for the next three (3) years min. Every company in the world is required to do a DMV License check (By DOT
Law)
when hiring you and ever year after that. You really just got to wait for them markers to go away.

Usually takes 3 yrs min to disappear from your license. If it were me, and glad it aint, I would look to get a job working in the industry or for a company for next few years. At this point you won't be able to get in a yard horse til the history cleans up.

"AND NO MATTER WHAT" You must stay squeaky clean til it does. Try usin your left foot on the Gas I found I cant push so hard with that one.

SLOW DOWN
Bubba

What about a local job like dumptruck ect ect????

Robert - St. Aug., Fl

Robert: If a thing looks like a skunk, smells like a skunk, and aint your cousin, it’s most likely a skunk.

A CDL is just that. Doesn’t matter if you drive a rig, doubles, dump, Beer truck (well maybe a stolen beer truck) They all require a CDL background check and DOT requirements. You gota just except the idea you may need a career change.

NOW I DO KNOW OF 1 OPTION:: Halliburton is hiring drivers for Iraq and Pakistan to transport everything. I was told they will take you with a bad record being there aint many guys that want the job. Pays good but retirement might suck.
Sorry guy, is there anything else you like to do besides driven?

Bubba

Thank you for your time... its a damm shame i wasted 10yrs of driving for one speeding ticket?

not joking /how can i find out about haliburton? driving is my passion thats all i know? the lord will take me when he wants and if im driving when i go its worth it to me?

Robert - St. Aug., Fl

No need to thank me Robert.

(2) things to think about.
#1 It will take at least 7 years for this ticket to come off your license. So PLEASE keep your record clean for at least that long.
#2 http://nsc.org/ddc/ddcptd This is the National Safety Council. There is an on line class you can take that will help reduce points. This is also a good way to show prospective employers that your trying to do “THE RIGHT THING” and
# 3 Damn I said 2, oh well can’t count to 21 less I’m naked.

www.Halliburton.com Please think about this first. It’s great money but it’s like sleepen with the Sheriffs wife, you’ll always have a target on your back. Good Luck and let me know how things go.

Bubba

I thought you said 3 yrs? now 7? i have taken adi on line and now i have to take another class????

Robert - St. Aug., Fl

The 3 years is immediate as all companies have to start WITH THE 3YR MVR. Almost all companies and insurance companies will then run a 7 year and some even a 10 year MVR. Not sure what adi is but I do know the NSC class can help. I understand your frustration BUT 90/45 and a suspended license, your more than an expectable risk for most companies and their insurance company. As the economy gets better maybe things will look up for you, but for now there are plenty of drivers out there with clean licenses looking for work.

Bubba

What if i supply my own insurance???

Robert - St. Aug., Fl

This won’t make a difference to a company or their insurance company. Even owner operators are subject to the same scrutiny.
Buddy: It may not be fair or even right but “It is what it is” It aint just the horse in the front that counts, it’s the wagon and whats in it that the companies worry about as well. Wish I was more positive, but the only option you have is finding a small 1 or 2 truck outfit, that will look the other way, and their insurance company will most likely kill that.
Good Luck

bubba I failed a random drug test -> lost job. does this show up on a dac or what? How do other employers find this if u don"t list it on an app? How can i get back 2 driving.thank u. ?

Johnny Head- Cisco, Georgia

Johnny: Not to sound like a $3.00 preacher in a card board church, but you need to look into a different occupation. If you want to stay in the industry maybe a dispatch job or something in the shop.

It may sound like a bad dream, but honestly, you'll never out run that failed drug test. It not only appears on your DAC but by law must be reported by your previous employer.

DOT requires a 10 yr previous employment history and it will show, even to the small or 1 &2 truck guys. I wish I had better news, but with the current economic conditions and the insurance companies (in stone) drug policies. I know it's tough, I felt the same way when the judge told me that maken shine was no longer an employment option for me.

Good luck and hang in there.
Bubba - (Oh yea STOP DOIN THEM DAMN DRUGS)

I have a DUI that is 3 yrs old but have 3 yrs driving experience do you know any company that will hire me ?

Lisa - Indianopolis, IN

Hey there smacksgirl: Gota tellya I do like that handle. Unless you mean to smack me up side the head with your fist. My ex useta call that a love tap.

Damm I wish she didn't love me soooooooooo much.
Sorry to say mammm you will find it near impossible to get on with a National Carrier or big Company. Any of them companies that use DAC reports as part of their screening process (Which is most all large companies) will turn up that issue of the DUI. I admit it really aint fair the punish people for 1 mistake. It would be different if you were behind the wheel of the big rig, but to be shut out of your field of employment for something that happened during your down/private time is wrong. Plain out right wrong.

We are all human (At least most of us are) and we make mistakes. Them insurance people (Who by the way are causing these here problems) need to realize 1 mistake does not make us drunks, speeden, fools. Wonder how many of them would lose their jobs if they were held to the same standards???? Sorry smacks, but your only true shot is to look to the little 1'sand 2's and smaller companies. They seem to be more in tune with the drivers that need that little bit of understanden and help, and once that is off your DMV report you gata better chance with the little guys.

Good Luck - Bubba

PS Bubba will be at the Expediters Show in Wilmington OH July 24,25,26 If you want to stop by.

How do you get back to work after a failed drug random? I even know a man O/O who will put me in one of his trucks just havin trouble
finding a company any ideas??

Ax Man- Alton, Il

Ax Man: I wish I could be more encouraging, or at least positive. But that aint the case. Your like a preacher with no church. You can preach all day but if no-one's listening it's a waste of breath. Failing a random drug test is about the most negative thing you can have happen in this industry. I don't know of any major or even small trucking company that would hire you with this on your record.

Did you go thru a SAP program (Substance Abuse Program) this can help (a little) but generally only for your current employer, but to tell you the truth they will look for the slightest reason to let you go. If you wish to remain in the trucking industry your best chance is to get your own authority, or find someone with their own that will work with you. A lot of Brokers do not check or unfortunately care about these things and you might be able to stay busy with brokered freight. I wish there was something I can tell ya, but can't think of anything.

Bubba

Outa work, lil' less than desirable DAC - What do i do? Where do l go?

John - Mishawaka, IN

John: I told a woman once she was a lil"less than desirable. Her mustache was better than mine. She kicked me in the fun place. Now there are 2 types of DAC reports Good/Bad I'd haveta bet yours is how do I say (Reads like a novel) more sheets than that new toilet paper those bears use.

To tell you the Truth there are several options. #1 if the crap on your DAC is not the truth, or exaggerated ,we have some friends at DAC FIX (Dacfix at 800-494-7517) or there is a link on their ad on that CDLFreedom site. They can help clean up a DAC if it is not accurate. On the flip side to that, you will have to look to the small companies that may not use or put stock in DAC.You can talk with them and explain any issues chasing your butt.

BUT BUBBA suggests you always be honest with any prospective employer. You would not like someone lying to you if the roles were reversed. Honesty and integrity will often offset any problems in our past. Deceit aint just a place to park your butt it is like one of them avalanches, once it starts you can't stop it and it only gets bigger.

Good luck John
Let us know how things go

WHAT ARE THE DOT RULES ABOUT USING THE SLEEPER TO GET MORE DRIVING
TIME?

Tim -Westlake, LA

Tim:

I just love a sleeper. My mother said she made me at Big Joe's Truck Stop in my Daddy's sleeper. The first Co I drove for told me that room behind me was for extra freight. Them darn DOT fellers think we are a bunch a babies.(Only drive 11 hrs and then sleep for 10) When I first started driving I got paid .10cts per mile. I couldn't have afforded 1/2 my ex-wives on those hours. Funny how some damn 4wheeler can drive 24+ hrs straight if he wants. Oh well guess they are more better drivers. NOT

Sleeper Berth Provision Drivers using the sleeper berth provision must take at least 8 consecutive hours in the sleeper berth, plus a separate 2 consecutive hours either in the sleeper berth, off duty, or any combination of the two.

No matter how you shake it we can still only get 11 hrs of on road to every 10 off. For more info Tim got to the DOT link on the site. Wish I was wrong it's tough to make a liven when you can only drive 11hrs. ??? How do all
them cops and fireman and nurses and such get to pull double shifts (12-16 hrs). The only difference is we sit behind the wheel at our job and we get to pick our down time when we need it. Guess it's not all that important
that they are fresh and alert. Oh don't get me started.

Hope I helped
Bubba

Where is the best place to get a new CB? I see them at the truckstops all the time but I am hoping to spend as little as i can to get one.

Lee - Dunnellon, Fl

LEE: You come to the right place. I spend so much time on my CB I made the mistake of calling my wife Good Buddy in my sleep. She got soooooooo mad.
Thought I was talking about her boy friend. I wished I was the one that invented them things, I was 23 before I realized you could talk to people on a telephone that wern't even truckers.

All you gota do is go to www.autohavit.com- them guys got the best prices I've ever seen for that electronic stuff. I saw their ad here on the Freedom site, but you could go direct if you want. I do believe you will find them to be worth the trip.

Remember to keep the rubber down and the CB antenna up, listen for them smokeys and stay safe.

Bubba the Good Buddy

I see a lot of people using their laptops on the road how do they do that? im not very puter savvy. max.

Max - Franklin, IN

Well Max your right, they seem to be all over the place (Good thing for us) and there are more places to get connected every day. Don't worry bout bein computer savvy. I had to get a new one the other day cause my screen was covered with that white out stuff to correct my spelin.
Most all Truck Stops and more stores and dinners are offerin internet wire less connection. A lot is free but some cheepys do charge. Amagin chargin for wireless connection, like chargin to watch TV with my rabit ears.
A lot my Buds ues the Air cards you plug in the side, kinda like a cell phone you can't talk on. I tried too, took my old lady an hour to get that damn thing outa my ear.

To tell you the truth Max the lap top can be a beautiful thing. You can get any information you could ever want. Shop on line. Watch TV or videos Stay in touch with work or the little (OR LARGE) lady at home. Make new friends and talk with some old ones. I resisted like a lot of us older Truckers, but you know I kinda like, color TV, micro waves, new CBs,cordless phones (Hate them black berry things, my fingers ain't that small. Guess modern tecnolgy just snuk up and kicked me in #ss. I like the old days though when I just handed the guy my message and he rode off until he handed it to some other feller.

Most lap tops are set up to receive wireless internet connection at locations that are broadcasting, or thru a wireless card that connects you by phone. Some even have the ability to connect to a satellite thru their Truck Com Link. Getting and staying connected is getting easier and faster every day. If you have any specific questions please give the old Bubba a yell and I'll try and help you. I'm in the Chat room a lot, but just e-mail me and we'll git 'er done. (Friend of mine said that).

What do i need to do to get back out there on the road? After about a year and a half -maybe 2 years off, because of multiple surgeries on my leg, everything is ok now. And i want to get back out there driving, but i only had 6 months to 1 year when i had to come off the road... your info is appreciated
thanks

Jeremy - Apple Grove, WV

Sorry to hear about your leg. To tell you the truth snakeeyes, There are few company's out there that will bend their requirements. They're getten tighter than those AIG fellers that had to give up all them Millions of dollars of Bonus money. Gotta drink the cheep booze, drive their own #ss around town, only use street stock hookers, fly in airplanes with other people, some of them even gotta go to work before noon now!

The trucking companies done forgot about what it was like a year ago, when they would have taken a 1 armed,3toed,blind guy, that thought air brakes was when his woman farted and said NO.

Give Bob an email at bob@cdlfreedom.com tell him Bubba sent you. He'lll see if any of the companies we work with can help. BUT I gota tell ya snakeeyes, Most companies require not less than 1 year (continuous) and verifiable over the road experience. They are at a point they can be picky and hard core (AND THEY ARE) in most cases. As I've told other buds, you gota look to the small trucking companies, and sell yourself not your experience, maybe they'll help you get the road time.

Good luck and let me know how things come out with Bob.

Bubba

What does it take for a guy to get more experience driving? i am a recent cdl grad - but now everyone has stopped student driver programs. i cant get hired anywhere because I dont have enough experience

John - Farbo, MN

Damn if I know JR Its kinda like reaching puberty, finding out why we stand to pee, and then everyone telling you to wait till your married and stay away from your cousin. I just wanted to get some experience so I wouldn't disappoint my future wife one day.

John in all seriousness: It is a terrible place you find yourself, as well as so many others. The economy has made things real tough. Trucking companies can be more selective AND LESS interested in taking risks with new inexperienced drivers. One idea you might try is approaching smaller trucking companies and even some real small 1 and 2 truck businesses. These companies will be more apt to look at you (The whole you) as a person not just a résumé. This worked for me and many others I know, because the owners got to know me And my work ethic as well as my personality. If this all meshes right, they might take a chance ON YOU.

If driving is what you truly want, be prepared to work harder, LONGER, and for less pay than the more experienced drivers. You need a FULL uninterrupted YEAR of driving experience to be considered by most companies. More for some.

I know I sound like your papa, but that is the cold hard truth, right now your best bet is to sell yourself to a company that just happens to need a CDL Driver.

Good luck AND STAY IN TOUCH

BUBBA

What type of bullets are you NOT allowed to carry on an airplane?

Officer Howie Do It
Louisville, KY

Not very funny Howie.
I felt like Achmed the Terrorist.
SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU JUST FORGET A LITTLE THING LIKE 2 LOADED CLIPS OF 9MM ROUNDS.
I thought they were going to insert them in my receiver.

SERIOUSLY I must give the people of Louisville Airport Security a real thumbs up and "Thank You". It's Diligent people like this that make it safe for us to fly.
Did they question me? Yes as they should.
Did they ever mistreat me? NOT ONCE
Did they ever act anything,
but the true professionals they are. NO.

THANK GOD. Sorry for the scare guys,
But thanks for keeping America Safe.
